Birgit Platz was born in Flensburg Germany, immigrating to Canada in 1952. While still a student at Ancaster Highschool in 1965, Birgit worked on her art through Art Instruction Schools earning a general art certificate in 1969.
Her commercial art apprenticeship began in Hamilton 1966 with El Ruddy Company followed by Ingraham Offset Plate from 1967-1969. In 1969 she worked at Benjamin Film Labs followed by an eleven year commercial art career with Oshawa Group where she took great pride in designing advertising for IGA and Food City Stores throughout Southern Ontario. In 1980 she continued her career for another eleven years as a journeyman compositor with Metroland Publishing out of Mississauga and Oakville.
In 1991 her journey continued as a single mom, self employed freelance visual and craft show artist. At the time she traded her smoking habit for a computer. Her computer investment at the time became her lifesaver as a learning tool for her and her children Jason and Janine Stoll, who now are also entrepreneurs fulfilling their own dreams.
Today after twenty- four years with her husband Al Ludlow, together as Albirg creations, they continue to create as well as help others market their work.
For more than fifty years her artistic creativity has been her therapy, always loving to try something new feeling fulfilled. At craft shows she paints and creates much of her original work for eventual art cards. It's an ongoing "therapeutic journey"!
Since June 2019 Birgie and Al Have found a home for all their creations as well as a space to happily work daily. Birgie and friends at 4343 Queen St. Niagara Falls, Ontario was originally and old Dollar Store run by a delightful elderly couple. After 3 years, even through Covid, Al & Birgie continued their shop keeper journey , one they find very fulfilling, hoping to help bring Queen St. back to the fore front in a positive way..
